Blood and Soil

A new version of environmentalism arises from the American South. It is rooted in a “Blood and Soil” mentality – the Nazi Germany's ideal of a racially defined national body (blood) united with a settlement area (soil). These eco-nationalists believe the land is their birthright and when they see that land deteriorate from extreme and erratic weather, dwindling food supply chains, and diminished biodiversity – they are inspired to act.

Supported by a Supreme Court that repealed Roe v Wade, they dismantle progressive policies one-by-one, doing little to hide their neo-nazi values. This includes stricter control in who enters the country, deportations of “undesirable” populations, and even higher rates of incarcerations. Under this government’s leadership, oligarchs govern with an iron first to enact their will, justifying their actions by pointing out that they cannot let the Chinas and Russias of the world displace America’s right to rule.

Protecting Blood and Soil becomes a priority as the true costs of compounding climate disasters and biodiversity loss become apparent. It’s not about a few places being warmer; it’s about losing power and a way of life. The environment is deemed more important than any individual life, and is awarded with a new set of Blood and Soil-informed rights. Coercive environmental policies are put into place, with help and assistance offered to Red states and counties first.

Evidence:

  • “There is no white nationalism without eco-facism”: the Christchurch shooter and Buffalo shooter both held eco-facist ideologies.

  • Climate change is driving far-right ideology into Spain’s government, promising visions of a brighter future.

  • Climate nationalism is how geopolitics is being played.
